Xero Shoes Terraflex Mens 14 Trail Running Hiking Shoe Barefoot Shoes $49 99

xero terraflex

To me, they are horrible for trail running if you truly like a minimalist shoe. The padding on the rear collar is also too bulky and high.

  • I will post a long term review when I have properly put the shoes through their paces.
  • As a trail running shoe, the TerraFlex is a durable, flexible racer that has a beautiful foot-shaped design.
  • These must have been purchased through correcttoes.com, and cannot be worn outside.
  • Zero dropThe Xero Terraflex has a zero drop from heel to toe.
  • Attracted by the low cost and the 5mm lugs on a Vibram sole.
  • Terrain bumps and undulations are softened by the TrailFoam embedded inside the FeelTrue rubber sole.

Feel Connected To Your World When You Run Or Hike In The Terraflex Ii

Geoff, please post some feedback on what you think of the Nimble shoes once you get them. I don´t like it either, though in this case it seems to work OK for me. Yes, I was talking about ‘standard’ joggers rather than something utterly minimalist. Obviously, this is for people who are fully transitioned. He’s addressing “barefoot” enthusiasts like himself, and suggesting that they shouldn’t be too gung-ho on longer projects. The Joe Nimble Trail has a 3mm removable footbed, so there is plenty of room to swap the rockplate in and out as required. Based on my testing, I’d describe the Terraflex’s traction as very good.

It has a foam pad in the insole for recovery, and floats in water if they come off your feet. They are really comfy, light, and easy to adjust both at the thong strap and at the heel. I feel good in them for walking, but I have to wear them pretty tight to be secure . Unfortunately because of my shallow feet and skinny ankles I probably won’t get tons of use out of them this summer.

Fit –Fits much better than the Prio and toes don’t feel crunched at the end with lots of room to spread your toes. The shoe opening is snugly enclosed but not overly tight. The uppers are mainly a woven fabric, not mesh, and actually appear more substantial than mesh. The soles, which incorporate a toe bumper, have a raised chevron pattern for grip.

Xero Terraflex – Women’s – $99.99The Terraflex also comes in a women’s version so check them out in the Xero Shoes storeif you’re interested. The colour of the men’s Terraflex that I have is called ‘Forest‘ but they also come in ‘Black‘.

Very comfortable with a wide toebox though they run a bit small. After the first few days of wear, I was really impressed with how comfortable they were. You don’t have to break them and they fit like a slipper! Without the traditional raised heel support, you do feel closer to the ground. But it was actually nice feeling the changing terrain under your feet (that ‘barefoot’ experience) and the flexible sole provides ample protection over rocks, gravel and hard ground.

I have been using Merrell Bare Access Flex for the past 6mos. They work really well for what little jogging I do anymore, around a mile per day…a far cry from the 7-10 mi I used to do before back surgery. They are not too heavy and can handle a few screws in the winter so I don’t go slipping on all the ice. Zero drop, sticky rubber, but not real durable uppers. They don’t work well in mud but leaves/rocks/rock face doesn’t bother them.

They’re not offering the trail shoe right now, but it’s new so I imagine they’ll be stocking it at some point. Double the price of the Xero, but if the Xero is going to fall to bits after 200 miles the Joe Nimble should work out cheaper in the long run. I really liked the look of these when they cam out. The company’s website advises that the Terraflex runs a little small, and indeed, I found size 12 on the tight side, xero terraflex even though for most other brands I normally wear 11.5. It may be that Xero Shoes run a little smaller than other brands, or that there is some variability in the manufacturing process. In any case, the company has a free exchange program, and the customer service department was very responsive when I needed to swap out sizes. To clean your terra flex, hand wash with warm water, mild soap and allow them to air dry.

But buying shoes online is always tricky—mostly because of the size. While Xero Shoes https://xero-accounting.net/ do have a size guide for each of its shoes, I feel it could have been more detailed.

They look like a generic chinese shoe with the quality of a water shoe. I’m going to hope they make it 200 miles and replace with another doomed pair of MT10v1 shoes. The 5000 mile sole warranty doesn’t matter when the sole isn’t what wears out. It is a discount on a new pair of shoes from them if the sole wears out in the center tread before 5000 miles. The shoe it self will never hold up long enough for the sole to get that many miles.

This allows them to still fit comfortably after a long distance run. Xero generally has an average to wide toe box width, and continues to be wide through the instep and heel. The shape of the toe is rounded, so works well for Mountain or Plateau shaped feet . Xero typically is high volume, so you get lots of space above the toes and the arch.

Sizing for a shoe is different than a sandal, so if you own one of our sandals, that doesn’t mean you’ll pick the same size in the TerraFlex, so use the measuring info if you can. An eco-friendly road running shoe made with sustainable materials. I actually don’t have the 360 myself, I had a guest author review those. These shoes were gifted from Xero Shoes, but this post is not sponsored. It was still cold out when I tested them, but it seems to me like the thick material would feel hot in the summer. I’ll probably wear them most often in spring and fall . For kicks, I tried them on slick ice outside and they were pretty slippery .

Xero Shoes Terraflex Ii Review

I am a part-tme bare-footer so my feet are pretty strong and decently tough but I can’t walk on sharp rocks without some protection for the soles of my feet. I’ve hiked and even backpacked a few miles barefooted but I was much slower than when shoe clad.

  • While the Terraflex is not as light as some of the other minimalist shoes, it’s a fantastic combination shoe.
  • Even though the TerraFlex II is a barefoot-style shoe, the 6.5mm sole has the FeelTrue rubber compound and embedded 3mm layer of TrailFoam to soften blows.
  • Xero Shoes provided me with these shoes for review purposes and do not require them to be returned.
  • For conditions in upstate New York, the biggest traction concerns in my experience are scrambling over sandstone ledges and running through layers of dried leaves.

I do use trekking poles so that helped but I use them with other shoes or even when hiking barefooted. When I was day hiking I usually wore a small day pack with water, a snack, my rain jacket and a few other odds and ends. Another plus was that even though the trails have been muddy on several of my hikes the tread patterns does not clog up with mud. What little that would stick to the inside of the V has been easily removed with a hard knock on my porch steps after they have dried a few hours. But seriously, there hasn’t really been enough that this was necessary, I’m just in the habit of doing it with my other shoes. The shoe is designed to allow for plenty of toe movement yet at the same time utilizing the reflective heel and instep straps to help lock in those areas of the foot. It is also a pretty flexible shoe which allows the foot to move freely and mold to any terrain encountered.

Review: Xero Terraflex

I’ve snagged ’em on all sorts of trail debris. There is an exterior strap that connects from the bottom heel area to the laces. That rubber piece has split and no longer holds the strap so the strap is now floating at the top of the shoe at my ankle.

I hiked about a mile (1.6 km) before stopping to set up camp. With more storms on the way I got in my hammock and watched the next wave dump a lot of rain and blow my tarp. It continued to rain off and on during the night. My forth overnighter was June 7 on a trail near my home. The high was 84 F and the low was 64 F with no rain. My last overnighter was July 9 at Cloudland Canyon State Park in Northwestern Georgia. I enjoy hiking, hunting, fishing, and kayaking.
